چکیده

Infrastructureless positioning systems such as pedestrian dead reckoning suffer from error accumulation. This paper describes the application of a technique using self-deployed localization tokens and simultaneous localization and mapping to overcome this limitation. We successfully applied the technique known from mobile robotics to pedestrian self-localization based on pedestrian dead reckoning and present some preliminary findings.

Inertial/magnetic sensors based pedestrian dead reckoning by means of multi-sensor fusion

The challenges of self-contained sensor based pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) are mainly sensor installation errors and path integral errors caused by sensor variance, and both may dramatically decrease the accuracy of PDR. To address these challenges, this paper presents a multi-sensor fusion based method in which subjects perform specified walking trials at self-administered speeds in both in...

Integrated Bluetooth Fingerprinting and Pedestrian Dead Reckoning for Indoor Positioning on Apple’s iOS platform

In this paper, we propose an innovative and low-cost hybrid indoor positioning system using various sensors on the mobile platform. This system consists of a pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) part based on the encapsulated Application Programming Interface (API) of Apple’s iOS platform and a low-cost Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) fingerprinting calibration part. Pedestrian position information can b...

Virtual lifeline: Multimodal sensor data fusion for robust navigation in unknown environments

We present a novel, multimodal indoor navigation technique that combines pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) with relative position information from wireless sensor nodes. It is motivated by emergency response scenarios where no fixed or pre-deployed global positioning infrastructure is available and where typical motion patterns defeat standard PDR systems. We use RF and ultrasound beacons to peri...

Improvement of the Effective Components in the PDR Positioning Method Based on Detecting the User’s Movement Mode Using Smartphone Sensors

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and improve the accuracy of indoor positioning using smartphone sensors based on Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) method. In some specific situations, such as fires or power outages that disable infrastructure-based positioning techniques, using PDR method based on smartphone sensors that perform positioning continuously is a good solution. This paper focu...

Enhancing Indoor Inertial Pedestrian Navigation Using a Shoe-Worn Marker

We propose a novel hybrid inertial sensors-based indoor pedestrian dead reckoning system, aided by computer vision-derived position measurements. In contrast to prior vision-based or vision-aided solutions, where environmental markers were used-either deployed in known positions or extracted directly from it-we use a shoe-fixed marker, which serves as positional reference to an opposite shoe-mo...
